身近なこと，生徒そのものが題材になる
今日の授業では，It... for...to...という中学校ではごくごく見慣れた言語材料を導入し，それを用いたコミュニケーション活動を行いました。
準備する教材は，「ありません」。
そうです。子どもたち，先生，そのものが素材なのです。
ALTとのおしゃべりから授業が始まります。
J: How long have you been in Japan?
A: Well, I've been in Japan for about 23 years.
J: Wow, that's so long.
A: Yeah, it's long.
J : Is it easy for you to live in Japan?
A: Yes. I think it's easy for me to live in Japan because my life in Japan is really convenient now. I can go shopping easily, I can ride on trains and buses easily.
J: Sounds nice.
A: Yes, but when I first came to Japan, it was very difficult for me to live in Japan.
J: Why?
A: Because things were really different from what we have now. For example, it was so difficult for me to use Japanese style toilet.
J: Wow!
A: I didn't know how to use it first. Also, it was so hard for me to use chopsticks. It was hard for me to eat Japanese food with them.
J: Ah, I can imagine how hard it was!
A: Yeah.
こうして，新出の言語材料を含んだ意味のある文脈を生徒と共有していきます。
その後，生徒たちをこの流れに巻き込んでいきます。
A: By the way, I heard you have the homestay program in your city, right? Who joined the program? Raise your hands.
(some of them raised their hands)
A: S1, where did you go?
S1: I went to New Zealand.
A: Sounds great! Where in N.Z.?
S1: Auckland.
A: I see. I really want to go there because I'd love to see rugby matches in N.Z. Did you have any troubles?
S1: Yes, I did.
A: What was difficult for you?
S1: It was difficult for me to speak English.
A: Ah, I understand.
S1: I want to communicate wrell, but I couldn't.
J: Anybody else?
S2: I went to the U.S.
J: Where in the U.S.?
S2: Oklahoma.
J: I see. What was diiffiicult for you?
S2: It was difficult for me to eat food.
J; What? To eat food? Why?
S2: Because the size was too big.
J: Too big?
こうして，自然に導入していった言語材料にフォーカスしながらインタラクションを展開し，その後，その中で使ったターゲット文を取り上げて板書し，意味を考えさせます。
文法にフォーカスしながら意味・用法を確認し，練習として発話練習をさせた後で，ペアでの対話に入ります。
ALTとJTEがモデルとしての対話をデモンストレーションし，その後生徒たちにペアで話し合ってもらいます。
J: What's fun for you?
A: I think it's fun for me to play the guitar.
J: That's great. How many guitars do you have?
A: Eight.
J: Really? How often do you play them?
A: I play them every day.
J: I see. Where do you play them?
A: In my room.
こうして示したモデルをもとに，ペアでの対話につなげていきます。
最初の展開を板書してノートに写させ，その後一緒に練習をして出だしの部分の型に馴染ませます。
その後は実際にどんどん使わせていきます。
どうでしょうか。
派手な教具やICTも使っていません。
でも，子どもたちはいきいきと対話をしようとしています。
それはなぜ・・・
相手の新しい情報に触れる，相互理解の一助となる・・・相手を知る，自分を知ってもらう，ということがとても楽しいのです。
